How to Set Up an FBT VN 2000 or VN 2500 System Correctly for Bands and DJs

Getting the best performance from your FBT VN 2000 or VN 2500 system starts with correct setup. Whether you are using the system for live bands or DJ performances, a few simple adjustments will help you achieve a balanced, punchy and reliable sound every time.

The first step is setting up the subwoofer, whether you are using a SUBline 112SA or 115SA. Begin by setting the level control to 0 dB, which is the 12 o’clock position on the dial next to the preset control. When pairing the subwoofer with a Ventis 206A top cabinet, the two most suitable sub presets are Preset 1 and Preset 2. For bands, Preset 1 is recommended, with a 90 Hz crossover point. For DJs, Preset 2 is the better choice, crossing over at 140 Hz for a fuller low-end setup.

If the Ventis 206A top is mounted on a pole directly above the subwoofer, the delay on the sub can be left at 0 ms. The phase should also remain at 0 degrees, so the phase button should be left unpressed. Finally, make sure the button labelled OUT is pressed in, so the output is working as a high-pass filter rather than a link output. This ensures the tops receive the correct filtered signal from the subwoofer.

Moving on to the Ventis 206A top cabinet, set the level dial to 0 dB, matching the subwoofer. When the DSP is not in edit mode, this same control also works as the top speaker volume control. This makes it easy to balance the output between the tops and subs for different rooms without changing EQ settings. It is worth noting that this control is cut only, and the level is shown on the display in minus dB.

For the DSP settings, press the encoder to enter the menu and scroll to Reset. Once the Ventis 206A has been factory reset, it is ready to go. The high-pass setting can remain on bypass, as the crossover is already being handled by the subwoofer. When it comes to speaker presets, these are largely a matter of personal preference and can be adjusted to suit the room and application. However, Original / Live is usually the best starting point for most venues.

With these settings in place, your FBT VN 2000 or VN 2500 system will be correctly configured and ready for use. Proper setup not only helps the system perform at its best, but also gives bands, DJs and engineers a solid starting point for consistent results in a wide range of venues.

If you want, I can also turn this into a more typical FBT Audio UK news post style with a punchier intro, subheadings and a short call to action at the end.
